Kinesio Taping

The neuromuscular bandage or kinesiotaping consists of cotton tapes with an acrylic adhesive used to treat athlete’s injuries and other physical disorders.

It is a thin elastic cotton band that claims to be able to stretch up to 130-140% its original length. As a result, if the bandage is applied to a patient with a stretch greater than normal length, it will recede after being applied and create a tensile force on the skin or muscle on which it is applied. This unique elastic property allows for greater range of motion compared to traditional athletic softbands and can be left for long periods of time before reapplication.

It is manufactured with a latex-free material and with acrylic adhesive that activates with heat. The cotton fibers allow evaporation and rapid drying, allowing more lasting use that reaches 4 days. The effect of the bandage depends on its use along the body and how it is applied: direction of traction, shape, place, everything intervenes in its hypothetical function. Some of the proposed benefits include proprioceptive facilitation, muscle facilitation, reduction of muscle fatigue, reduction of soreness, pain inhibition and improved recovery, such as in the reduction of edema and the improvement of lymph blood flow.
It is claimed that there are many theoretical benefits to the band. One of them is to correct the alignment of weak muscles as well as facilitate joint movement as a result of the tensile qualities of the bandage. In addition, it is claimed that it lifts the skin, increasing the space under it and increasing the blood flow and circulation of lymphatic fluids. This increases interstitial space and is supposed to relieve pressure on bodily nociceptors, which detect damage, and stimulate mechanoreceptors, to improve overall proprioception of the joint.

APPLICATION OF THE SELL.

The bandage is applied to the affected muscle in stretching, bandaging from the origin of the muscle until its insertion. Once applied, rub the bandage to activate the pressure sensitive adhesive.
